EP 200: The Theology of Homemaking with Kimberly Hahn
I’ve been in a rut. I mean...who hasn’t? After the past year and a half, which has been both wild and uncomfortable on a global scale and has laid bare our personal lives? Stuck inside for part of the year, wearing a mask for another part, trips cancelled, plans altered, the rollercoaster of political theater...its easy to feel tired and bogged down. I certainly have been. I felt like I needed to refresh myself in very practical ways, in simple ways that I could control in my own small corner of the world. But I wasn’t quite sure how.
So I began to pray: Lord, what am I doing with my life every day? Could I be doing it better?
It wasn’t long before two books suddenly showed up in my life and answered two sides of that prayer.
First is Nicole Caruso’s book Worthy of Wearing and the second, Kimberly Hahn’s Graced and Gifted: Biblical Wisdom for the Homemaker's Heart. One gave me the encouragement to enjoy the beauty in how I dress and present myself. The other gave me a better understanding of the theology behind homemaking and how to practically improve my own homemaking skills.
At a time when I was looking to improve the “infrastructure” of my daily life, these books helped to shape it, especially as I weaned my littlest, affording me more freedom in how I dressed, spent my time, and so on.
Happily, I’ve been able to chat with both Nicole and Kimberly on their books (You can listen to the episode with Nicole here).
Kimberly joined me on The Catholic Mama podcast recently, and she shared so much wisdom gleaned as a wife and mother over many years. I’m excited to get to share that episode with you today.
I joked with Kimberly that her book is the most expensive I’ve gotten lately - not because of the direct cost but because I bought so many of the books she recommended in her writing! So besides sharing the link to buy Graced and Gifted, I’m also including the links below to a couple other books that I found helpful in recent months, and I think you will, too.
Download the episode below or listen to it on iTunes, Stitcher, Google Play or anywhere you normally access podcasts. The Catholic Mama is there!
